샤프 파워는 하드 파워의 일종으로 적대적 목적을 위해 정보를 기만적으로 사용하는 것을 말한다. 사상이나 정치적 사고, 선거과정에 개입하는 것은 오랜 역사를 가진 행위다. 기본 모델은 예나 지금이나 같다. 달라진게 있다면 허위정보가 확장되는 속도가 엄청나게 빨라지고 확장비용이 크게 낮아졌다는 점이다.
